Just as my name is Myra Day, it is one of my goals to help people safely enjoy their day. I learned the art of sewing in my early childhood. My mother taught me on her Singer pedal sewing machine. My grandmother also encouraged me to sew on her Singer pedal sewing machine and taught me to make doll clothes. Both women were inspirational to me and spurred my passion for the craft. Soon after I became married in my young adulthood, my husband encouraged me to save my leftovers from dressmaking and said, “Save your scraps so you can make a quilt!” I saved those pieces of fabrics that I thought were useless scraps and attempted to cut knit and cotton blend fabrics. In my feeble attempt, I failed to succeed.
After being discouraged and lacking self-confidence, I found a quilting teacher who taught me the essential basics of quilt making in the mid-1970’s. Quilting for me then became a lifelong passion and outlet to express my creativity. Over the years I have produced numerous marvelous quilts and other quilted products. Some of my quilts can be found in a local museum, churches in my state, and of course, in many homes around the U. S. I now enjoy creating my own patterns for fabrics and making quilts from them. I machine quilt my quilts with a Gammill Statler Stitcher quilting machine. My products are made in my smoke-free and pet-free studio.
In a society that is now dependent on technology and e-commerce, my husband and friends urged me to offer my products online. Since the pandemic, COVID-19, has grown beyond belief, the need for face masks is more prevalent than could have been predicted. I felt passionate about using my creativity and craftsmanship skills to produce and donate high quality face masks. I have donated hundreds already to local organizations in Connecticut to help First Responders, essential personnel, and the general population, particularly those with little resources. It is now my goal to help the wider public stay safe during the escalation of the virus as well as continue to donate as many masks as possible from the profits of selling my masks. I have engineered a design that is unlike many other masks in the saturated market, in children and adult sizes. Face masks gave me the impetus to enter into the (unknown and challenging for me) world of e-commerce.
